The last month has been a big eye-opener! The world has slowed to a standstill and we are all staying home. More than ever, we crave connection and are gaining perspective for so many of the things we took for granted before this season! Just because the world is on pause, doesn’t mean life is though. Life’s memories are still happening and for so many, that means they are celebrating them alone. Our friends and families are still celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Some are having babies and others are graduating from college and high school. More than ever we have the opportunity to be intentional in the way we cultivate our relationships and show up for our friends and family. I’m partnering up with Basic Invite to share 5 ways to show your loved ones you care this season. If you’re looking for ideas, this post is for you!
1. MAIL THEM A SWEET NOTE
We have lost sight of the value of putting a card in the mail. Since technology has taken over our lives, we don’t go out to our mailbox expecting to receive anything thoughtful anymore. We are so programmed to expect junk mail, that a handwritten letter or card amidst the others really stands out. Instead of shooting a text, take 10 minutes to sit down and write them a card! If you’re feeling extra creative, customize the stationery with Basic Invite’s almost endless selection of options. You can customize everything from the colors, words, fonts, photos, and prints to make sure it’s just right.
2. SEND FLOWERS
Another great option is to send flowers as a surprise. Every girl loves a bouquet of flowers! They brighten up the house and make you smile every time you look at them. It will mean a lot to open the door and see them sitting there, especially when they had no idea they were coming. Plus it’s easy to order them from the comfort of your own couch.
3. CATCH UP OVER VIDEO CALL
There is something uncomparable to face to face interaction. Since the best we have right now is video calling, take advantage of it! Set up a time to catch up and really connect. One of the best ways to build relationships is to spend time together. Don’t let social-distancing be an excuse for not doing so. To make it fun, consider adding a twist like a virtual dinner party, game night, or workout to keep things interesting.
4. HOST A VIRTUAL CELEBRATION
If you really want to show you care, think about those in your life who are missing out on some milestone celebrations and host a virtual party! If you know someone graduating, host a virtual graduation party! Pull out all the stops by sending out college graduation invitations to everyone attending, mail gifts to the graduate’s house to open during the video party, and even play some games! You could do the same for a baby shower, wedding, or even a birthday. Remind them that just because of the terrible timing, doesn’t mean they have to forego the memories. We all deserve to be celebrated!
5. DROP OFF A LITTLE SURPRISE AT THEIR HOUSE
I don’t know about you, but the more I’m at home, the more into cooking and DIY projects I’ve been. If you’ve got a reignited spark for cooking and baking, put it to good use and surprise someone. You could bake some sweets and drop them off with a sweet note on their doorstep. Or make dinner and call ahead to let them know you’ll be dropping it off. Prep some at home fun for the whole family with a movie box. Those are just a few ideas and I’m sure they would be so appreciated.
Whatever it is, take some time this week to remind people that you are thinking of them. It’s the little gestures of kindness that will get us all through this season and I truly believe our relationships will be stronger because of them.
